I’M ON MY OWN AGAIN

Rush to the airport
Smile and wave goodbye

Run down the aisle
Cannot find my seat

Tap her on the shoulder
Might not be allowed

Sit in front of first class
Right behind the pilot

Music I never heard before
A haze of gold outside the window

Plane lifts off in a thrust
Propels me off my seat

There is no hokum here
Moving through the stars

The light is precise
A scent of sandalwood

Punjab a Sikh sits near me
The turban on his head unfurls

Trapped within my skin
I’m turning inside out

People float around
I see the astronaut

Who went waterskiing
Surprise is in his eyes

A sinking feeling in my gut
I’m on my own again
